In October, 2013, Barry and I bought a six-day Photo Safari package at the GALA Choruses Leadership Symposium. Since then, we've been planning our three-week adventure. Finally at 11:10 this morning we caught the airport shuttle and we're on the way to the airport now. This is the beginning of about 25 hour of travel to our destination in Johannesburg.
One little surprise on our flight there: I don't like wasting time on layovers when flying to South Africa, so I thought I found a direct flight from DC. As it turns out, it's just a "non-stop" flight with a stop in Dakar, Senegal where, apparently, we're not allowed to get out of our seats. Oh well - it's still way cheaper than Delta was this time, and not too much added time.
I have all of my new technology packed and read - fairly new phone with Global data plan, new Cannon camera, new GoPro, and new Asus notebook/tablet computer for blogging. And only one adapter with which to plug it all in!
As on our past trips, Barry's mother Gywen is travelling with us. We will spend the first 2 1/2 days with my aunt and uncle Marty and Peter. We're looking forward to seeing their new home, although we will miss the spacious guest accommodations at their former house. After our first few days with them, we head out for some places we've never visited before - the Kingdom of Lesotho and the KwaZulu-Natal province. Stay tuned!
